Long story short, I own a buffalo WHR-HP-G54 flashed with DD-WRT. Wanted to get some support on it (which means I couldn't find my manual =) ) and came across the link above.

I ain't no patent lawyer, so I'm a little confused on the matter. I did a bit of digging in Google but nothing really clears things up for the layperson.
So Buffalo infringed on some patents when the patent holder was about to make 802.11a/g standard? Sounds like other companies are involved in this infringment, including Netgear, yet I can buy a Netgear router, but not Buffalo? Why isn't the entire market of a/g products affected? Is it because Buffalo is a Japanese company so US is upholding the Japanese patent? I'm pretty much confused...wikipedia mentions it, but really doesn't go into why.

Just wondering if somebody knows something about it or can figure out what the statement means. I love my Buffalo router (ok...I love DD-WRT more) but it occasionally started rebooting itself spontaneously and I'm worried it's a sign that I'll have to get another router soon. I am upgraded to v24RC5 in hopes of maybe the reflash will help.

This happened quite a few months ago. If i remember correctly I think it was back in September that Buffalo stopped distributing routers in the US.

I thought that once you flash it, then support would be out of the question. I have two of these units that were flashed also, and with DD-WRT, they have been rock solid, as opposed to my old netgear that required periodic reboots.

I never noticed Buffalo stopping distribution -- I thought the router just became obsolete.

Re: support...I was only looking for a picture as to where the "RESET" button was. Didn't know it was the "INT" button on the bottom wink.gif

Buffalo's wireless injunction stayed

that happened a few months ago, but so far i'm not seeing much in terms of deals or availability.

They have a new gigabit router, the WZR-HP-G300NH, that is supposed to become available in April. It has some pretty good looking specs -- I'm putting off buying a new router until it is released so that I have a chance to take a serious look at it.

I'd imagine it will take them some time to build back market share considering all the cheap wireless junk that is available now, most of which isn't even worth tossing in a dumpster.

Their deal with the DD-WRT team for firmware development ought to help them in the long run, provided that they can come up with hardware worthy of the firmware....
