Mine updated yesterday, but nothing like that happened to me.

It sounds like your CTRL button is stuck or something though because

CTRL+click on link = open in new tab
and
CTRL+scroll = change text size

I'm guessing you stopped leaning on your Control key. biggrin.gif
Krunk
Like garsh and miranda, it sounds like your ctrl key was either pressed or stuck. By stuck we mean that the computer thinks it's pressed, but in reality, it isn't. Usually, if you tap both ctrl keys a few times, it becomes unstuck.

Also, you can disable auto-update and force it to prompt you when you want to update it in tools > options > advanced > update

2.0.0.14 is available. It added one security fix.

Firefox 3.0 RC1 is out. Has anybody tried the new version and have something to say about it? RC1 is better than beta, so it should be pretty close to a finished product?
Miranda
I haven't tried 3.0 yet. I think I'll just wait until FF auto-updates to it, probably once it's final.
cron
If they're on the same pace as last time, then i'd say we should see firefox 3 final in a month.
Monga
I'd love to know how to fix my FF... it gets stuck in "waiting for..." on Amazon.com and Sellercentral... I just can't deal with that as those are vital sites for me... (any idea how to fix it? I even tried running FF in safe mode...)
BlueTDimly
Firefox keeps crashing on Vista for me - very annoying. Anyone else have this problem?
WillyNilly
Have neither the problem Blue or Monga are reporting.

Firefox 2.0.0.14 working well on Vista Home Basic SP1 and Home Premium SP1

I think my firefox sometimes has problems with sites that use a lot of flash and will hang, but it's not a consistent and reproducible issue

RC2 now

I tried RC1 on a fresh install to fool around with. Some sites can't display properly in FF3, so this isn't for everybody yet!

How does the board look in the release candidates?

Looks good.

When I gave RC1 a whirl a couple weeks or so ago, the sites I had problems with used plugins that weren't compatible with Firefox 3 yet.

NEW YORK - A new version of the Firefox Web browser is scheduled for release Tuesday with improvements in security, speed and design.

Many of the enhancements in Firefox 3 involve bookmarks. The new version lets Web surfers add keywords, or tags, to sort bookmarks by topic. A new "Places" feature lets users quickly access sites they recently bookmarked or tagged and pages they visit frequently but haven't bookmarked.

There's also a new star button for easily adding sites to your bookmark list — similar to what's already available on Microsoft Corp.'s Internet Explorer 7 browser.

Other new features include the ability to resume downloads midway if the connection is interrupted and an updated password manager that doesn't disrupt the log-in process.

Firefox also will start blocking rather than simply warning about sites known to engage in "phishing" scams that try to trick users into revealing passwords and other sensitive information. The new version adds protection from sites known to distribute viruses and other malicious software.

The list of suspicious sites come from Google Inc. and StopBadware.org, a project headed by legal scholars at Harvard and Oxford universities.

Security researchers who need access to problem sites can manually turn the feature off.

Firefox 3 also offers speed and design improvements — the back button is now larger than the forward button, for instance, because people tend to return to a previous page more often, said Mike Schroepfer, the project's vice president of engineering.

Firefox is the No. 2 Web browser behind Microsoft Corp.'s Internet Explorer. It comes from Mozilla, an open-source community in which thousands of people, mostly volunteers, collectively develop free products.

Mozilla has been developing Firefox 3 for nearly three years and has been publicly testing it since November for Windows, Mac and Linux computers.

Its supporters are organizing launch parties around the world next week, and Mozilla is trying to set a world record for most software downloads in a 24-hour period.

Microsoft is currently testing Internet Explorer 8, while Opera Software ASA released Opera 9.5 on Thursday.

whoever runs the show at mozilla is pretty amazing keeping their product moving and on schedule. They're releasing almost exactly in the month time frame i mentioned in a previous post.

RC3 is now available.

May not upgrade immediately, as browser extensions usually take time to catch up

I love the address bar history searching - so easy to just type the name of a site and have it pull it up from my history.

Interesting....apparently RC3 = Final.
RC3 = RC2 with Mac workaround.

So basically, on a Windows box, RC2 = Final (ie no real improvement/fixes when getting the official version) :D

Firefox 3 Download

pages seem to load faster for me with FF3. interesting.

Seems like a worthwhile upgrade for people who don't rely on the add-ons and themes. I'm guessing those people will have to wait for things to be upgraded for compatability???
Miranda
I never realized I had so many add-ons installed. I'll have to check their FF3 compatibility before I upgrade.

A surprising number of the addons continued to work for me, including:
  • McAfee SiteAdvisor
  • Greasemonkey
  • NoScript
  • Nuke Anything Enhanced
  • Google Gears smile.gif
  • HttpFox
  • Google Desktop Search

Does FF3 check add-on compatibility before it installs or does it not tell you until after it's installed??

I installed it on OSX, which basically involves copying a file.

So I guess it was after. wink.gif

I just installed it on two PCs and it checks after it installs, then offers to update them for you. Had to switch out Adblock for Adblock Plus on mine, no big deal.

MUCH faster loading pages now, very pleased with it so far.

I was wondering the same thing. Thanks for the info.

I'll probably wait another week or so to upgrade, hoping that by then all of my extensions are updated for 3.

Anyone know why FF3 is not saving/remembering my tabs when I open the app? I've got it set correctly in the options....
BlueTDimly
I finally upgraded and noticed that the released version of Firebug (1.0) doesn't work. I needed to manually install the Firebug 1.2 beta. Other than that, all my extensions continued to work!

updated on it's own to 3.0.1 today

  • Fixed several security issues.
  • Fixed several stability issues.
  • Fixed an issue where the phishing and malware database did not update on first launch.
  • Under certain circumstances, Firefox 3.0 did not properly save the SSL certificate exceptions list.
  • Updated the internal Public Suffix list.
  • In certain cases, installing Firefox 2 in the same directory in which Firefox 3 has been installed resulted in Firefox 2 being unstable. This issue was fixed as part of Firefox 2.0.0.15.
  • Fixed an issue where, when printing a selected region of content from the middle of a page, some of the output was missing (bug 433373).
  • Fixed a Linux issues where, for users on a PPP connection (dialup or DSL) Firefox always started in "Offline" mode (bug 424626).

I finally updated to FF3 yesterday.

I don't really like the auto-complete functionality of the URL bar in FF3 because I don't like how it also searches page titles... I'm used to having it complete URLs only. I prefer the one in FF2.

I've been trying some different things in about:config to get the old functionality back, but it's still not quite the same.

Haven't tried some of the stuff posted here yet:
http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum...8&forumId=1

This link in particular looks like it might be helpful:

Anyone know where the download manager options are? I looked in all sections of the options menu, but I can't find it.

I want FF3 to remove downloads from the list once they finish downloading. Is there an about:config setting I can use for this?

Maybe this?

In the Privacy tab:

Under "History"

uncheck "Remember what I downloaded"

Nope. It's already unchecked and I still have to clear it manually until I close my browser. Thanks though.

just installed FF3, and hate to say I regret it. the new "awesome bar" not only has a stupid name, it sucks big time. case in point: I start typing "b" in the address bar, and instead of seeing domains that start with b sorted by most frequently accessed (e.g. "bargainshare.com"), I get random bookmark/history results that have a "b" in the title somewhere.

I have to say, I like being able to search my history in the address bar like that, but I want it to be a choice. I'm so used to accessing commonly visited web sites by typing the first one or two characters, which is now completely thrown off. and apparently you can't turn it off. sad.gif

edit: after using a bit more, it seems like it's re-learning urls I frequently visit and adjusting the sites it returns as a result. so it's better, but still should be a separate feature.

I still don't like the awful bar after all this time. Yeah, it does relearn your habits, but still throws in page titles in some results. Sometimes I end up going to the wrong site because of it.

I'm still trying to give it a chance though, maybe they'll bring back the old bar a few updates from now. pray.gif

I do like the extra security - the way it alerts you if a site you're visiting might be bad. I was on CAG yesterday and someone linked to a possible bad site (the site was oldschoolgamer . com) saying good things about it, but when I visited, FF warned me that it's a reported attack site. Even though I have NoScript installed, it's still nice to have a heads up.

Other than the security and the initial browser load time, there isn't really much else that stands out that I like about FF3. I might go back to FF 2.5 since they still provide updates for it or just start using Flock a lot more... but once Flock is in 2.0, it'll also use the awesome bar. sad.gif
dasnufus
I also hate the awesome bar.

I disabled the awesome bar by changing the value of:

browser.urlbar.maxRichResults

from 12 to 0

But I think it disables more than the awesome bar's features. But since the awesome bar was so annoying, I could live with it.
