Another topic on my new Acer quad-core machine. I've got a sony USB 2gb flash drive I've been using for a while. Works great everywhere, just like you'd expect.

On my new machine though, after a while (haven't paid enough attention yet to see if it's after a certain amount of time, etc), it shuts the flash drive off. The drive still appears in my drive list in my computer, but the LED on it's off, and if I try to access it the comp says it's not there. I haver to remove and reinsert it to get it back, and then it works fine for a while again.

I did try going in to the USB devices in device manager and turning off the option for windows to disable the device to save power on all the usb ports. We'll see if that helps.

Anything else it could be?

Have you tried plugging in to any other open USB port? Could be a faulty USB port in the new machine.

The computer might be set to shut down USB ports to save power. See here:
