My daughter is here with me visiting from NY through Sunday (it's Friday afternoon). She wants to buy a notebook pc and has shown me this:

I tried to talk her into a Dell but she doesn't want to hassle with rebates at all. Her uses for it will be simple web surfing, burning cd's watching an occassional DVD, and loading Office XP onto it (for work stuff).

My question is are there any other laptop deals right now? I tried searching up Acer notebooks for reviews and I'm not getting much. I know the Acer name from desktops, but that's the extent.

Is this or isn't it a good deal? TIA.

What is the speed of the processor?

I was able to configure a dell with the configuration of this machine (minus the processor speed). Dell is also offering office XP small business with the purchase. The final price was 858 without any Small Business coupons. So if you find a nice 10% coupon you can get the machine with 2.0Ghz celeron processor for under 800. Not including Tax of course and shipping is free.

I hope it helps.

Thanks guys for your help. I was leaning with Dell but when we went in Dell's site she saw 'rebate this and rebate' that and started whining like back when she was 5 years old (no I do not miss the whining tongue.gif ). She doesn't want to bother with the rebates. With not much time to be shopping at that moment, I told her I'd ask in here and we'd come back to order. We're in Dell now, and thanks for the tip gametalent. We won't discount your offering. smile.gif

You may want to avoid Windows ME. wink.gif

If you can shell extra bucks ( actually hundreds ), that compaq X1000 is really awesome deal for the awesome lappy. Make sure you use 5% academic program + 10% CPN. Only one MIR to mess with and it plains simple. You can even register online.
