Downloading Windows XP updates to HD rather than installing them.

I would like to download the updates to my HD and keep them so if I need to update again I can update from my downloaded archives.

Sometimes we have to do a complete system restore and it would be nice to restore off downloaded MS files rather than be connected online :-) Windows update .

I remember a MS site that allows downloading and saving the MS files to HD.

thanks all

Help ?????

I now have access to a high speed connection at the library when I bring my laptop.
I am gonna bring my external HD to save these updates like DirectX :-)

All MS Windows/Office/other updates have "network" installations, which essentially are downloadable files. For example, http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/pro/dow...sp1/default.asp , the network install is on the right. Just check out the default download page for each update (have to do it manually, no way to do this using the auto update tool)

I suggest using the Windows Update Catalog. When on the Windows Update page click the "Windows Update Catalog" link on the left menu. If it's not there, click "Personalize Windows Update" and put a checkmark next to "Display the link to the Windows Update Catalog under See Also".

When you click on the "Windows Update Catalog" link, you will be taken to a screen where you can search for updates for specific operating systems, then you can download them to your hard drive.
