I have some baby memories on VHS tapes and would like to convert them to CD/DVD.
I saw in the CVS ad it costs $30 and up to do this. Is there a machine we can buy to do this ourselves?
TIA

video capture card. Some graphics cards have video capture. There are also dedicated PCI cards like those from Hauppage
There are inexpensive USB converters as well. You can digitize the video into the computer and then use DVD burner, which I assume you already have,
there are standalone units with DVD recorders as well. But computer interface probably cheapest way.
DH said it takes too long (14 hours) to burn from VCR>camcorder>computer.
Too bad
these are pretty much gone now.

If you want to pay someone to do it, I've used homemoviedepot.com before. That was for 8mm films, but they do VHS too. They often have 10-20% coupons floating around.
Simple, get a DVD burner, output the VHS to the input on the DVD burner, then burn the DVD from there. I think you need to purchase a DVD burner that has an input, or you can output from the VHS to the TV, then output the TV signal to the DVD input, but that may be unnecessary or not possible. I am not talking about a DVD burner on a computer, but one that is specifically made to have video inputs and outputs form manufacturing professional DVD's.

I bought a pioneer dvd recorder/vcr combo several years ago that does a great job. Put your tape in, put a blank DVD in and hit the dub button. then finalize when the recording is done. They are a bit pricey, but for about $100 you can get a refurbished combo.

This is probably the least expensive way to do it.
I ended up solving this problem by running the output of a VCR to the input of my ReplayTV. I then recorded it onto the replay TV, then used
dvarchive to copy the resulting MPEG files from the replay tv to a computer, where I could then burn them to a DVD.
Nice work, a lot more processes than I expected, but hey, whatever works.

Sony makes a VCR/DVD combo unit which easily goes tape-DVD.
