QUOTE (article)
SP3 was given to a limited pool of testers in July, after being repeatedly delayed. It was originally planned to be release in 2005. Boy, did that ever go well. The leaked version of SP3 is not quite the finished product, or even a completed Beta, but that hasn't stopped it from becoming an incredibly popular torrent download. It comes in at around 340 Mb and can be found pretty much everywhere.

I don't know why this is a popular download. The only reason anyone should be installing a pre-beta Service Pack from MS is for testing/development. I hope none of my friends are installing this on their main machine, the calls are going to start coming in.

Friend or no friend, that's something to rack up plenty of billable hours for biggrin.gif

lol, this is hillarious. They release a new service pack for XP while a bunch of people are BEGGING for a Vista service pack.

Are we sure this isn't a prank? tongue.gif

they've already announced that vista sp1 will be coming in the 2nd half of 2007. similarly the xp sp3 release date has been announced to be 2007.

Recently, I had auto updates (XP w/sp2) when I did my nightly shut down. As I recall, nine "trust us" from MS at varying length. I figure updates come about every 2 or 3 months, since I purchased the machine. Now to figure out how to let the clowns at Redmond to f*** off on switching to Window Live to check my Hotmail account. I'm forced to go through My MSN page to check my email.

they push updates on the 1st or 2nd tuesday of every month. sometimes there would be a month w/ no updates, but that doesn't happen often.

i'm not exactly sure what your problem is with checking your hotmail email. what happens when you go through the normal route?

New features included in sp3:

QUOTE
* New Windows Product Activation model: no need to enter product key during setup. Thank God for that!
* Network Access Protection modules and policies have been brought to XP after being one of the more-well-received features in Windows Vista. You can read more about NAP here.
* New Microsoft Kernel Mode Cryptographic Module - the Windows XP SP3 kernel now includes an entire module that provides easy access to multiple cryptographic algorithms and is available for use in kernel-mode drivers and services.
* New “Black Hole Router” detection - Windows XP SP3 can detect and protect against rogue routers that are discarding data.

I would still recommend delaying installing it for quite awhile, besides testing/development purposes of course.

Took a while, but I found a hosted link. I expect that link to die quickly, so don't think too long 'n hard if you wanna d/l this.

*EDIT* B$ re-direct may be killing the link. If so, C&P it directly into browser:
