Cisco kills off Linksys

Cisco bought linksys in 2003 and is now officially phasing out the name in favor of the "Cisco" name.

Personally I think they should keep the Linksys name. It takes alot of time, effort & money to build a brand. Why throw it all away?

...the Linksys name was kept because US consumers knew the name better than Cisco. Now apparently this is not the case.

Are you serious?

Yeah, I definitely don't agree with that. The one good thing I see coming of it is everybody will be more familiar with the Cisco name in years to come, which is good for them.

It will all come overtime into a Cisco brand. The reason we kept Linksys' brand because it was better known in the US than even Cisco was for the consumer. As you go globally there's very little advantage in that", said Cisco's CEO.

I still think it's confusing, I'm not a networking expert but the way I see it, Cisco is primarily known by IT folks, while Linksys you would expect to offer consumer products. I personally like the brand differentiation.

Retrenchment is a fancy term for we messed around with 'new' things and lost money. Now we woke up and will stick with what we do best.

I agree everyone and there brother knows the name Linksys. Cisco also has a good name in the Business field(not home) and should leave it that way.
