We got 3 new PCs at work, they all have Vista Business.
I configured one, (and it is the only one that really works)... The outside Tech person we contract on a sporadic basis configured the other 2 are pretty much paperweights. I added more memory to one of them (my boss') and it still freezes when using Outlook. My boss is up to the point where he would tear every hair from his head if he wasn't already bald.
Help, please? He wants to go back to his old trusty XP machine...
Are these name brand machines or built by a local company (or person)?
Is there any firewall / Internet Security software running on the computers?
Does it freeze only when using Outlook?
What version of Outlook is being used? Was a PST file imported from another system?

And when you say "freeze" - is the computer literally frozen (i.e. not responsive to KB/mouse, no disk activity, etc.) or can you, for example, alt-tab (or Windows-tab) to another program? Do you have all the automatic updates for Vista and Office 2007?
Thanks for the questions:
The computers are Dells 8400 (I believe). They came with 1 GB of RAM. I upgraded my boss' computer to 3 GB of RAM last week. It's faster now, but it still freezes.
All the computers in question are running Vista Business, and office 2007. The one that does not freeze did not have a PST imported into it. My boss's computer did. His PST was from Office 2000 or 2003.
I do not know if he's got any updates other than whatever gets automatically done, I will check that tomorrow from the office.
And sorry, when I mean freeze, no it's not in that literall sense, we're able to ALT-TAB to other programs, but i.e. if my boss wants to go from one email to the next in Outlook, (down arrow) nothing happens. The thing just sits there. If he tries to delete an email, nothing happens. So we end up going to the task manager and terminating the outlook process, then we openit again, and voila, it works, for a while.
As far as accounting, we use a program called SBT, it is an older version, not totally compatible with Vista since it runs on the Foxpro engine, if you quit the program, Vista does not release it quite cleanly, so unless you reboot or a long time has passed, next time you want to start the program, the computer says the program is already running. Which is obviously untrue.
Any ideas?
TIA
try scanning the pst file for errors. there should be a program called: Scanpst.exe that came with Office 2007.
as for SBT, check the task manager to see if any instance of its still running or maybe or any instance of the foxpro engine.
