 Linksys PAP2 Unlock Info

Umbyboy
+ post 9-24-06, 2:38pm | Post #571
I tried to follow all the steps. I was wondering if I have to use my broadband router or would be better to connect the pap2 to the ethernet of a pc. Secondly I'd like to understand what that means:
"Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) built into XP may work. Try enabling it on the ETHERNET adapter of your PC (i.e. the same PC running the HTTP, TFTP, and DNS servers)", don't I have to disconect the router from the internet?
Number 3:"Using a standard ethernet cable, connect the PC (running the DNS, TFTP, and HTTP servers) to a LAN PORT on your Broadband Router" can't In use a pc with wireless adapter instead of ethernet cable to connect the pc to the router?
After that I'd like to have some advice about what Server softwares use and if there's a complete guide of the unlock:D Please let me know I spent all the day without any result.Tnx a lot!

I tried to follow all the steps. I was wondering if I have to use my broadband router or would be better to connect the pap2 to the ethernet of a pc.
I found things worked much faster/easier WITHOUT using a router (i.e. using a crossover cable and ICS running on the PC).

QUOTE(Umbyboy @ 9-24-06, 6:38pm) *
Secondly I'd like to understand what that means:
"Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) built into XP may work.
Search Windows XP's built-in help for "ICS" or "Internet Connection Sharring." Or Google "ICS Windows XP" or "Internet Connection Sharing Windows XP" to learn more about it.

QUOTE(Umbyboy @ 9-24-06, 6:38pm) *
Try enabling it on the ETHERNET adapter of your PC (i.e. the same PC running the HTTP, TFTP, and DNS servers)", don't I have to disconect the router from the internet?
If you use the ICS method w/ a crossover cable, your router is not used AT ALL.

QUOTE(Umbyboy @ 9-24-06, 6:38pm) *
Number 3:"Using a standard ethernet cable, connect the PC (running the DNS, TFTP, and HTTP servers) to a LAN PORT on your Broadband Router" can't In use a pc with wireless adapter instead of ethernet cable to connect the pc to the router?
So long as your router remains DISCONNECTED FROM THE INTERNET, yes, you should be able to use a wireless connection to your router instead of a direct ethernet connection.

I suggest you start reading through this ENTIRE THREAD. It's long, but the questions of software you're asking about have been asked and answered in here previously. In fact, post #326 contains my step-by-step instructions for unlocking using the ICS method as well as a hyperlink to the TFTP server software I used (SolarWinds). wink.gif

I don't have a crossover cable, I'll try using a router, If I can't unlock it I'll buy a crossover cable!
Would this one be ok?:

I added this to the main post just now:
I'd like to use a router instead of a crossover cable. What changes do I need to make? (Post 557)

That might help in case you don't have a crossover cable.

THANK YOU DIGGLER.

I think the response is this your post i read there:

You have a couple of options:

1) Buy a new PAP2 (make sure it's not a PAP2 v2) and return the used one.
2) Wait for Vonage to push a newer version of firmware than 3.1.9.

Diggler

so i have to wait for news now with the hope that vonage does change the firmware otherways we all are freaked. smile.gif

I don't know italian, but the page title does say "CROSSOVER Patch Cable," so that should work.

Another option which should work is to use a SWITCH (or HUB) and two (2) standard ethernet cables:
    1) Use the first ethernet cable to connect the PAP2 to the hub/switch (to one of the hub/switch's regular ethernet ports, NOT THE UPLINK PORT)
    2) Use the second ethernet cable to connect the PC to the hub/switch (to one of the hub/switch's regular ethernet ports, NOT THE UPLINK PORT)

You can also convert your broadband router into a SWITCH by:
    1) Disabling the DHCP SERVER on the router
    2) Using the "LAN PORTS" only as the switch side ethernet ports (i.e. don't connect anything to the router's WAN port).

Try this one:

See if these parameters help:

Does not help? Same symptoms.

One thing I forgot to mention, I have not registered for a Stana-in Phone number. I put in account number for user id and wanted to configure another PAP2 with a different stanaphone account number and see if they can talk to each other.

BTW what does AAA stands for ?

is that the bare minimum you need for a working account? i haven't messed around with stanaphone since last year.

I may set my account back up and play with it. I'll let you know.

Everything is working now. Here is what I learned.

I was configuring two PAP2 adapters for stanaphone. Both parties opened new accounts with stanaphone. My goal was to configure the two different adapters so that the two parties can talk for free using the account numbers.

All I did was to configure the adapters as follows:

userid: 08xxxxxx
password: as provided

everything is same as posted by cron.

Now I can make calls between the two adapters. However, cannot call local or long distance or international. Why is that, I do not know but not my worry, as that is not the requirement.

Many Many thanks to all.

Hi,
I have unlocked one PAP2 some time ago (was 2.0.12)
I still have a 2nd one, that was operational with Vonage until 08/06,
FW 3.1.9
(cancelled contract... those guys bugged my wife forever)

Anybody wants it ?
I'd take a motorola 5120 for it ...

Hello Everyone,

Right now, i am using
Line 2 - Stanephone(offered new york local number)
Line 1 - Voip Stunt(offered free call to many countries)

My concern is there anyway to configure tha pap2 so that i can answer call for line2 and make outgoing cal from line1.
i knew there is a step by step guidelines, posting#8, but i am confused about step 4 and step 6. I regsiter for free dynamic DNS but i am blur on how to use it and forward those ports.

Also, i knew there is a way to install another firmware so that both lines will use the same port and will NEVER get locked again. My question is, are we able to flash to ORIGINAL condition? Or once it is being flash to the new firmware, we are not able to switch back to previous firmware, 3.1.3.

My last concern is once i upgrade from 3.1.3 to 3.1.6, do i need to re-do those configuration for Line 1 and Line 2. What is the difference bwtween version 3.1.3 and 3.1.6?

Thank you so much!

Have a good day!

See POST #86 for the alternate firmware solution (i.e. converting your PAP2 into an SPA-1001). That post already addresses your concern about whether the adapter can be reverted back to PAP2 firmware:
"This ZIP file contains a firmware file to convert the PAP2 into a Sipura SPA-1001 as well as another firmware file to revert the SPA-1001 back into a PAP2."

The differences between PAP2 3.1.3 and PAP2 3.1.6 firmware are probably bug fixes. So long as your PAP2 remains loaded w/ PAP2 firmware 3.1.6 or lower, you'll be able to easily re-unlock it should it get re-locked via a FACTORY RESET. If you switch to SPA-1001 firmware, your adapter will anyway become FACTORY RESET safe while it remains in SPA-1001 mode.

Could anyone explain more about this please?

3) If you are behind a router (I am), you will need to forward the SIP port of the line you want to ring (the line you are forwarding to) to the SPA. This is probably much easier if you program the SPA for a "static LAN IP" (instead of using DHCP).

Also, i tried to Convert PAP2 Firmware into a Sipura SPA-1001. TFTP server sent the files and my pap2 did updated the file, i believed. However, after 2 mins, i log into my pap2, it still show Firmware Version: 3.1.3(LS
Any idea?

I bought a new pap2 from walmart almost 50$ and unlock it by myself. Is it consider a good deal?

Thanks!

I never have forwarded any port, since STUN does the job. This information is probably outdated.

I guess, good deal.

watch the indicator LED's while upgrading. Only if one turns red, the new firmware is accepted.
Maybe check firmware file for corruption, or download again...

1) Log into your PAP2's web-interface as "admin," then "advanced"
2) Go to the "Provisioning" tab
3) Under "Firmware Upgrade," if "Upgrade Enable" is set to "no," that's your problem. Set it to "yes," save settings, then repeat the firmware upgrade process. wink.gif

SPA-1001 firmware does NOT cause the PAP2's LED to turn RED. wink.gif

How to RE-UNLOCK your adapter using the FACTORY FRESH "GPP_K" value:

STEP 1: Grab a copy of OpenSSL
    1) See POST #23 for links to OpenSSL for Windows
    2) UnZip the ZIP file into its own directory (i.e. C:\temp\openssl)

STEP 2: Create an ENCRYPTED provisioning file (using adapter's FACTORY FRESH GPP_K value) to re-Open WEB access and to configure known USER & ADMIN pws:
    1) Create a PLAIN TEXT FILE (i.e. plain.txt) as follows:
    CODE
    <flat-profile>
        <Admin_Passwd ua="na">4321</Admin_Passwd>
        <Enable_Web_Server ua="na">Yes</Enable_Web_Server>
        <Web_Server_Port ua="na">80</Web_Server_Port>
        <Enable_Web_Admin_Access ua="na">Yes</Enable_Web_Admin_Access>
        <Protect_IVR_FactoryReset ua="na">No</Protect_IVR_FactoryReset>
        <User_Password ua="na">1234</User_Password>
    </flat-profile>

    2) Save (or copy) plain.txt to the directory where you unzipped OpenSSL (i.e. C:\temp\openssl)
    3) Open up a COMMAND PROMPT (i.e. DOS PROMPT) and CD to where you unzipped OpenSSL (i.e. type "cd c:\temp\openssl")

    4) Create an ENCRYPTED version of plain.txt as spa000000000000.xml (where 000000000000 is the MAC ADDRESS of your PAP2) by executing OpenSSL as follows:
    QUOTE
    openssl aes-256-cbc -e -in plain.txt -out spa000000000000.xml -k "<GPP_K>"
(where 000000000000 is the MAC ADDRESS of your PAP2 and <GPP_K> is the PAP2's FACTORY FRESH GPP_K value)

    5) Copy your newly created & encrypted spa000000000000.xml file to your TFTP-ROOT directory (where 000000000000 is the MAC ADDRESS of your PAP2)

STEP 3: Feed your created spa000000000000.xml file to your PAP2
    1) Re-connect your PAP2 in your local environment like you did when you first unlocked the adapter
    2) Start your TFTP server
    3) Factory reset your PAP2
    4) Wait for PAP2 to load your spa000000000000.xml file
    5) After it's been grabbed & loaded:
      i. The adapter's web-interface will be open
ii. The USER password will be: 1234
iii. The ADMIN password will be: "4321"

Diggler,

Thank you so much for your post.
1. Can this also work for PAP2 V2.0?
2. If we use VuckFonage to decrypt the config file, we can get the admin passowrd. Now if the adapter is FACTORY RESET and connected to internet, there's no web interface and there'll be new admin passowrd. So It looks we don't need use VuckFonage to decrypt the config file right after we unlock the adapter. Right?
3. According to your #21 post, if the adapter get FACTORY RESET, we can download and decrypt the xml file and get the Admin passord to UNLOCK the adapter. That could be another way. Right?
4. I got a problem when I use VuckFonage. It's asking for .NET Framework version 1.1.4322. When I click OK to download, I get to the microsoft site and it says "You have already installed the .NET Framework 2.0 redistributable on this computer." What am I missing?

By the way, if you don't mind I would like to collect your posts and put it on my blog, with your name of course.

I knew that rocket voip has a service that allows their customers to call certain overseas landline for free. The special thing is their customer able to call for free using their cell phone. Is there any way that we could make such thing happen to our pap2?

I haven't played around w/ the PAP2 v2 yet so I can't answer this one conclusively. The PAP2 v2, I believe, uses RC4 encryption, and AFAIK OpenSSL doesn't support RC4. There's an RC4.exe utility posted on BBR (and linked in one of the threads here @ B$) which can probably be used in place of OpenSSL.

No, you don't need to decrypt your primary XML file as soon as you've finished the unlock process for the purposes of extracting your admin pw; however, if you want to VERIFY that you've extracted the actual FACTORY FRESH GPP_K value, the only sure-fire way to do so is to download & decrypt your primary XML file. wink.gif

If you do BOTH of the above, I won't object to having my material ripped. wink.gif
