I seriously doubt if the complaints came from folks in Olathe. Let just say that Johnson County ain't an area where the buffoon is admire and one won't see two legged animals walking four legged pit bulls.

McDonalds pulls ad after pit bull owner outrage

McDonald's apologized and pulled an ad that came back to bite them.

The ad that said eating a Chicken McBite was less risky than petting a pit bull enraged pit bull owners and their defenders.

McDonald's spokeswoman Ashlee Yingling said Monday the Kansas City-area radio ad for Chicken McBites ran just a few days before it was pulled Friday.

The company issued an apology by email and social media sites and people who called a toll free number got a recorded apology.

Rachele Lizarraga of Sacramento says she found it reckless so she started a Facebook site and an online petition.

Some critics said McDonald's should also donate to pit bull causes or use a pit in an ad.

No word from McDonald's on those ideas.

In schools???

Although this is a fairly new article, the study was done in 2010...pressure tactics have forced many changes since then...The school held a movie night recently, and if you craved root beer or Raisinets, it was BYO...the concession stand offered water, lemonade, plain unsalted popcorn, & assorted fruit...

I consider fryers a necessary evil. First, a hood system is require over a fryer to meet code. Back in the 90's, I worked for a small business that cleaned hood system. The slugs that take their sweet time getting your food prepared at McDonalds and Denny's, also avoid dropping hood filters on a regular schedule. Next is the cost of oil, which even for restuarants ain't cheap. Costs conscious owners and management will ensure steps to extend the life of the oil; but I seen the stuff smoking (broke down) and there's a day or two before the weekly replacement. Third is that hot oil can get people seriously hurt and disfigured. Given the general opinion is that unskilled entry workers have gotten stupider over the years, why be paying out Workman Comp claims. I know of one chain that got rid of the slicer and limit oven usage to baking potatos. Finally, while one can't acted like Chicken Little, prepping and frying fresh chicken parts invite opportunties to get people ill. Beside, doing a batch of yardbird, whether for customers or the employees, is a quick way to 'kill' fresh fryer oil.

McDonald's Profitable New McBite

A chopped, breaded and fried bit of poultry called the McBite is one of the reasons profits are up. Are they healthy? To the bottom line, yes

64-Year-Old Can of Lard Still Edible Today

QUOTE
Feldmeier decided to get the lard tested because of debates about expiration dates and food safety. He took it to food safety experts in Germany, who ultimately deemed the 64-year-old can edible for human consumption. Food safety expert Frerk Feldusen explained that while the lard was gritty, tasteless, and difficult to dissolve, it was still edible.

What the difference between eating that oversize Snickers bar or putting a good dent in a bag of minatures. I've a preference for the Snickers with Almonds.

QUOTE
Big Snickers, Twix bars are going to disappear

Mars Inc, the maker of Snickers and Twix candy bars, will stop selling chocolate products with more than 250 calories in them by the end of next year, a spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

The company, which also makes M&Ms and Skittles candies and Juicy Fruit chewing gum, said the goal is part of an ongoing effort to improve the nutritional value of its products and to sell them in a responsible way.
The new calorie limit target means fans of the 540-calorie king-size Snickers bar might want to enjoy the big bar while they can. Come 2014, it's going to be gone, part of what Mars says is a broader push for responsible snacking.

In 2007, the privately held, McLean, Virginia-based company said it would stop buying advertising time or space if more than a quarter of the audience was likely to be under 12 years old.

Mars has also said it will reduce sodium levels in all its products 25 percent by 2015.

Spokeswoman Marlene Machut said the plan to stop shipping any chocolate product that exceeded 250 calories per portion by the end of 2013 -- a target first announced last fall -- was part of Mars' "broad-based commitment to health and nutrition."

Several media organizations, including National Public Radio, had reported on the chocolate bar down-sizing this week.

Mars is one of the world's leading food manufacturers. In addition to candy, it makes Uncle Ben's rice and Dove ice cream bars as well as Pedigree and Whiskas brand pet food.

Recently, I watched part of the FNC special on Glen Campbell, who is doing his final tour and retiring due to the on set of Alzheimer's disease. One famous person affected by this condition was the late Charlton Heston, which I didn't know. Reading about psueso-burger, I couldn't help to think about Soylent Green, a flick in which the manufacturer actually cut the cow out of the equation.

There also a study on what the crew will be sleeping on during the trip. I spottted a poster about the study on the light rail train one day.

QUOTE
NASA is looking for space food taste-testers

Calling all supertaster space nerds: NASA wants your help to improve the bland food astronauts would have to eat while on a mission to Mars.

The space agency is looking for applicants to eat astronaut food for four months during a simulated trip to the Red Planet. Participants will try instant foods, and ones with shelf-stable ingredients, and scientists will record their reactions. The goal of the experiment is to discover what foods people like to consume consistently.

Cornell University and University of Hawaii-Manoa researchers want six people to eat space food and wear spacesuits on a lava flow in Hawaii for 120 days. Although, participants won’t actually go to space, the participants will act as if they are on Mars. The researchers will record the participants’ reactions to typical NASA foodstuffs, such as flour, sugar and dried meat.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, biological or physical sciences, mathematics, or computer science, and they need to have professional experience. Don’t apply if you’re a smoker or don’t speak English. Selected participants will go through a two-week training mission and will be paid $5,000 upon successful completion of the mission.

Round-trip travel, space food and lodging will be paid for. The application is open until Feb. 29.

Who wants to apply for this project and fulfill (at least part of) their childhood dream to be an astronaut? What food would you want to take on a Martian mission? Tell us in the comments below.

Currently, folks are willing to spend good money for a premium burger. Still if you plan to open a Five Guys Burgers and Fries franchise, have your lawyer check the paperwork. McDonalds was infamed for permitting too many units to be opened in one area. One chain I use to work for, was quick to close units that were once company operated and allowed to become franchises. This company has even gone to the point of razing the buildings. Last I check, just to open the first unit, require $5 million in net worth.
