I'm shocked, not.
QUOTE Best Buy CEO resigns; shares fall Shares of Best Buy (BBY -2.16%) rose briefly Tuesday after the company announced that its CEO has resigned, but were falling by mid-morning. Best Buy CEO Brian Dunn said Tuesday he is leaving the company. Director Mike Mikan is taking over as interim CEO while the retailer searches for Dunn's replacement. "There were no disagreements between Mr. Dunn and the company on any matter relating to operations, financial controls, policies or procedures," a Best Buy statement said. "There was mutual agreement that it was time for new leadership to address the challenges that face the company." Mikan was previously chief financial officer and executive vice president at UnitedHealth Group (UNH -0.26%). "I have enjoyed every one of my 28 years with this company, and I leave it today in position for a strong future. I am proud of my fellow employees and I wish them the best," Dunn said in the press release. The company has come under pressure in recent years as rival Amazon (AMZN -0.36%) has taken market share. Best Buy recently posted fourth-quarter results that missed Wall Street's revenue forecast. It also announced on March 30 that it plans to close 50 U.S. stores in 2013 in an effort to cut costs by $800 million by fiscal year 2015. Shares of Best Buy rose 2.91% to $23.31 in early trading Tuesday. The stock has risen 20 cents, or 0.86%, year to date. TheStreet Ratings gives Best Buy a C grade and hold rating. http://money.msn.com/investing/latest.aspx...be-a04edee8418f |

Another sign that those in or near the 1% class are not spending their income. QUOTE Ellisville Best Buy one of 50 stores to be shuttered
The Best Buy at 15678 Manchester Road in Ellisville is among 50 stores the retail giant will close nationwide by the end of this year, according to a press release. The Ellisville store is the only one in Missouri to make the new list. It joins a Kansas City location that closed earlier this year. Six Illinois stores are slated to close, none in the St. Louis area. The company has said it is moving to a new strategy that includes more sites but less square footage. A voice message at the Ellisville location said it will be closed today but will reopen Sunday. The company's press release said most of the 50 stores are expected to close permanently by May 12. Best Buy says it will help employees find other positions in the company. Severance packages will be available for those who don't find new jobs or choose not to work at different locations, the company said. |

One of the 'new' web sites that attempt to hook-up vets with major employers shows Sears looking for automotive help around the state. Again, folks in Chicago are probably fleeing urban areas and letting Walmart have the headaches.
Why Sears is on its last legs QUOTE Sin No. 1: Cutting investments in stores too much

A few years back, I had a cc provider that wouldn't pick up the phone between certain hours. For those who want certain perks from having a Sears cc, you might be a glutton for punishment.

One of my old man co-workers use to have a second job at a local Central Hardware store. The word was that he made sure the ghetto brothers didn't have any problems 'shopping' when they came to the store. Another chain where management dragged their feet as the local area near stores went into the crapper.

Why even have B&M locations, when it known the goal is to make money off the Geek Squad. Like other well known businesses that sell to the consumers, once the losers decide the time is ripe to share their their lives of crime with a Best Buy store, be on the lookout for the 'Going Out of Business' signs.

IMHO, many products made these companies were in the 'cash cow' part of the cycle. Frequently when new products come on the market, they gain share from establish brands, including items made by the same company.

I don't think I've been to a mall in 2 years...now that the kids are grown, I don't have to search for deals on designer jeans & Nike shoes...our crop of grandkids aren't as label fussy as their folks were...
Sears' Big Problem: Dying Malls The company built a valuable real-estate portfolio by placing stores at shopping centers across the country. Now many are falling out of favor. I grew up hearing about older relatives and friends of my parents who were judged to be too stupid to sell a house and now live in fear of being a constant victim of their neighbors. Lets be honest the same type of thinking helped grow the collar counties that surround the city of Chicago. Maybe with your relatives...Those of mine that moved because they wanted to live in a house, not an apartment...including my folks...but I do still have several relatives who stayed and raised families in the same neighborhoods...and continue to live there...not one has ever been victimized... To rehash one of my prior peeve, a company can't continue to do business where the 'Silent Majority' won't shop. Once folks perceive driving to and from, parking and walking to the mall, and others shoppers, aka hoodies types, are potential criminals and their lives are in danger, expect going out of business signs. Around here, the farther a mall is away from a certain minority group, the more likely you will find a Sear or other b&m has the doors opened. Now one topic over at Breitbart, is whether the buffoon is working with others to destroy the burbs and punish folks for 'white flight'. I grew up hearing about older relatives and friends of my parents who were judged to be too stupid to sell a house and now live in fear of being a constant victim of their neighbors. Lets be honest the same type of thinking helped grow the collar counties that surround the city of Chicago. If Best Buy management has order heavy for the Holidays, then sell cheap to generate cash flow. Afterward, go into reorganization/bankrupty and shutter most of the B&M. If the price is right, knowledgable consumers will pay a fair price on the internet and receive the item at the door. On the other hand, let the fools shop at Walmart or simlar B&M and purchase the 'bargain' electronics.

At one time, the St. Louis area use to be a mecca for shoe manufacturers and shoe companies.
Bakers shoe store chain files for Chapter 11 QUOTE Bakers Footwear Group on Wednesday filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection citing weak sales and mounting losses. The St. Louis company, which runs 215 shoe stores in 34 states across the country, ran low on cash and defaulted on one of its major credit agreements. Bakers filed in the Eastern District of Missouri. It plans to continue an existing plan to reorganize the company by selling up to 52 leases to Aldo U.S. Inc., closing other stores and selling off merchandise from closed stores. Pending court approval, the company has obtained financing that will allow it to operate while it restructures. Its 215 existing stores remain open and there are no changes to normal customer policies. Bakers' Edison hopes bankruptcy will aid turnaround efforts |

File under, all sales are final. Be aware when a liquidation seems to be taking forever, companies doing the sales have been known to bring in 'junk' merchandise and attempt to sell at a false (percentage) mark down. Often 'old' stock was removed from store(s) and won't be part of the liquidation event. Do a web search on the liquidator(s), since these crooks can't help themselves.
