Could anyone explain the details on how to remove the DNS servers setting in WRT54GP2?

Since the orignal setting is 0.0.0.0, but I always get the message saying "input ip is illegal!" when I reset them.

Please help me out!

Thanks a lot.

Hi All! I dont know if this thread is still active. I haven't used Vonage for almost two years and now I cant get my xml configuration file (I get profile does not exist). I dont know if it is because they have changed the way to access the server or because I was deactivated for such a long time. I understood the xml file mainly contains the password and except that I can fake it. Is there a way to somehow bypass the step that requires getting the original xml file from the Vonage servers?

thanks

Hi guys,

I bought a couple of unlocked RT31P2's and unlocked a few myself. In general all is fine but with some of them any changes made in the Voice_adminPage do not work and I get an error that says:

Settings are failed!
Some settings are not correct or router still restarting. Please try it again.

I needed to make changes in there to my dialplan since I want to use other providers and call numbers not formatted to the North American standard. As it happens I also have a quick fix for this since I saw many people want to make changes in that page and sometimes can't.

The following fix is for the Dialplan only but can easily be applied to any other value in there. I only tested the DialPlan myself and it does work.

Head over to the User Voice Tab / Line 1.

Right click the page. Save the source of the page onto your desktop and call it: link1.html

Edit the source and make some space to insert a hidden input. I hope you know some HTML and won't insert the code in the middle of a <TD> tag or something.

This is what you have to insert:
<INPUT type=hidden maxLength=2047 size=50 value='(90xxxxxxxxx|907xxxxxxxx)' name=voice_35>

90xxxxxxxxx|907xxxxxxxx happens to be the Dialplan I need. Change that with whatever else you need.

Save the changes.
Open the link1.html page in any browser and hit: Save Settings

Voila, you are done. If you visit the Voice_adminPage.html again your new Dialplan will be in effect.

I got same error message in a few RT31P2-AL units. The reason is because the Voice firmware of these unit is 2.0.10. I can use XML to do the change but not through web interface. If someone can get new firmware for RT31P2-AL and the problem can be fixed, or you have go to with Dogface05 in www.dslreports.com . He can make it a RT31P2-NA

I don't know if those still asking for the wrt54gp2_v1.27.02_209_combin_code.bin ...
to unlock their WRT54GP2 are still coming here to see any answers in this thread anymore

... BUT ...

THIS THREAD *the one you're reading now* SHOWS an optional Firmware to use. (post#3) where it mentions ...

7) (Optional) Download Other Unlock Firmwares
- 1.20 version of Unlocking WRT54GP2 Firmware (Modified 2.0.9) to your PC. wrt54gp2_v1.20.01_20 firmware (v1.20.01 w/2.09)
- 1.25 version of Unlocking WRT54GP2 Firmware (Modified 2.0.9) to your PC. wrt54gp2_v1.25.00_20 firmware (v1.25 w/2.09)
The first link for the v1.20.01 isn't working, but the second link for the 1.25.00 , so far, still is.
(if you have a firewall on your 'puter, you may have to allow java, and/or ActiveX, and/or, mime-type integrated objects.)
(if you still have troubles with it saying you're not authorized to get the file, you just may have to shut ALL privacy OFF, for your browser, as I had to.)

I haven't tested this entire unlock process yet, as I'm still getting all the info and software needed, together, for the unlocking.

It's seems all the crys cry.gif for the illusive wrt54gp2_v1.27.02_209_combin_code.bin
haven't been answered in several months... coffee.gif
has anyone actually unlocked their WRT54GP2 with this optional one , that IS still available? (v1.25)

-
i'd like to also ask for the v1.27.02 if it seems to work better, why was it removed?

??!!??

BY-THE-WAY...
where's the pap2 factory reset thread mentioned in Post#6, for the extra admin name/password list?

1) Locate the Provisioning tab on the Voice Admin page.
2) Copy down the GPP_K value into a text file and save. This GPP_K should be the Factory Fresh value.
3) To verify that this is the Factory Fresh value, use VuckFonage to download and decrypt the XML file.

Just I have a question - how you suppose this value now will be Factory Fresh blink.gif ?
Just a minute before you simply loaded XML, that free access to Voice page, not more then that!
I understand that only one thing can do it - factory reset, but...
When I do it, and sure not connected to Internet - BOX locks again.
As I understood, that may be it is new things dry.gif , and so on not explained and not raised here blushing.gif .
But I think Vonage lock set in factory settings, at least in some of boxes.

Can you please comment.
Thank you.

I followed the unlock instructions provided with the optional _25... unlock firmware. It didnt work at first, it wasnt requesting the file to upload from the tftp server. So I switched from normal ethernet cable to a crossover cable and it worked.

Also, for those of you that dont have a wireless connection, you don't need it. The directions just say you need another enet connection. any will do.

i have the issue that even trough i configured everything according instructions to the point, my xml refuses to upload, in fact the tftp log shows absolutely no activity, no mater what i tried so far

old version was 1.30.01 and 3.1.6(LI)
new version 1.17 and 2. so the version from here

eternal shows:
5326.601282 192.168.0.254 216.115.31.140 DNS Standard query A ls.tftp.vonage.net
5426.601307 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.254 ICMP Destination unreachable (Host unreachable)

the source and destination ports are constantly changing, i tried to change them, but no use i always get the same error

i might add that i have no firewall or anything alike, windows one disable, others never installed, its near clean install of xp pro

i added every and all domain names to the host file.. with is actually quite a lot
i tested this with 3 different tftp servers, and extra DNS servers

now for diagnostic purposes i did flowing config (after working/trying on this for like 10hours) :

where computer1 is the DHCP, with all the DNS, TFTP, apache, eternal

computer2 gets the IP from the RT31P

i can ping any and all domains (i added to the host on computer1) from BOTH computers, so DNS works fine, including ls.tftp.vonage.net and tftp.vonage.net

if i put the domain like vonage.net (or all other in host) in to a browser it opens up the apatche webpage on BOTH computers

so please HELP, what do i miss ?

EDIT 2008 feb 27 ... still no solution : ( still need help

For those of you having trouble at the very end, I may have your solution...

(This is for an RT31P2, using Solar Winds, and ICS on a windows box with 2 NICs. But probably applies to any situation using NotePad to create the spaMAX.xml unlock file)

Here were my symptoms...

1. After the device pulled the unlock unencrypted spaXXmacXX.xml file that I fed it, the Voice_adminPage.htm was not open (verified that the device was pulling the xml file by watching my tftp server logs.)

2. I tried to perform a factory reset in the web gui and after entering the user ID / pwd (administrator/8995523) the device would hang and I needed to pull the power to reset it.

3. No matter how long I held down the reset button on the back of the device, it would not factory reset.

4. The Linksys Firmware Upload Tool threw an error that the image could not be save to the flash rom on the device.

Here is what I did to solve the problem... (very simple solution)
When you are saving your unencrypted unlock spaMAC.xml in NotePad (ensuring there are no empty spaces at the end of the file), you must save the file with ASCII encoding.

Thats it, it will work for you. I went through this thread several times and there is a very brief mention of this in one of the posts. I was stuck on this step for some time as NotePad defaults to UNICODE encoding.

I hope this helps someone...

I unlocked RT31P2 after a struggle. OP has laid out a good instruction to unlock however did not specify what could be last steps and how to figure the last part.

I'm sharing here hope it will help.

YOU DONOT NEED APATCHE here. If you have installed APATCHE you will see apache running on your tray icon list just bring it down.

You just need Simple DNS, TFTP that's it.

a) Make sure you connect WAN of your Vonage device to your home router LAN. (Vonage WAN --> Home Router LAN)
B) disable wireless pressing wireless button your notebook. If you donot have wireless then very good.
B) Make sure you connect a LAN cable from your Notebook to another available port of your HOME router (Notebook ..> Home router LAN port)
c) go to command prompt type ipconfig. Note the IP for your PC and Gateway IP.
d) This IP will be used in every where. Note it down. DONOT restart your HOME ROUTER from now on, otherwise you may get a new IP, which will cause lot of confusion.
e) Now lets finish the settings on TT31P2.
f) Remove the LAN cable from your notebook for few minute.
g) Connect (RTP31P2 LAN --> Notebook), wait 1 minute
h) Type
http://192.168.15.1 enter admin/admin as password. Make sure you have upgraded/downgraded the router with the bin file provided by OP. thats must. You can do now, if you have done it before then good.
i) Make sure DNS1, DNS2, DNS3 on your RTP31P2 setup screen is now pointed to your IP which you got during STEP d)
Apply the change and remove the LAN cable from your NOTEBOOK.
j) Do step B) and step c) again. See if the IP is same as what you noted during step d)
k) open IE and type
http://<your GATEWAY IP> what you got during step c)
l) configure a static IP for your INTERNET WAN section. Enter the info for example
IP : 10.10.10.2
Subnet : 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.10.10.1
DNS:(Very imp): type your PC IP which you got in step c)
Save/apply the change

m) Check your Simple DNS entry . Make sure all IPS for your httpconfig, ls.tftp, ntp1-nyc etc are same as your PC IP which you got during step c)
n) now start DNS Lookup do a ping ls.tftp.vonage.net. See if it returns your PC IP. if not then wait for 2 minutes and try again. if it still does not work, then shutdown simple DNS and start again. do it until you are able to ping. IF you can not PING There is no point of moving ahead.
o) if you able to ping and got your PC ip as ping result then start TFTP server. Use solar WIND TFTP.
make sure your TFT-ROOT directory on c:\ has only one file thats is dummy XML file. The file has to be spa<YOUR WAN MAC(look Back of router)>.xml example spa002342024CBB.xml
p) see your TFTP should able to suck that file. If its able to suck the file it will give you two new line messages such as TFTP connected from ip on date GET complete ......

This step is painful. If you can't get this step then powercycle the RT31P2 and wait for 4 mins each time until your TFTP is able to suck the file. There is no way you have to powercycle untill you see the file is uploaded.
Once uploaded you are on your own. Best of luck

Step p) is painful. you will go around and on furstration you will do lot of changes which is not required.

Hello Dogcat,

Would you or somebody please instruct me how to set in SDNS step by step?
I don't know where to set those IPs in the simple DNS, which box should be fill or so.

Please, someone! I am out of the phone right now.

Thank you

Is the RT31P2 version 1.17.02 unlockable? I tested my DNS, FTP server and web server and everything is working but the RT31P2 just don't download the xml and bin files. The RT31P2 asked time.vonage.net to my DNS server and I created a time services on my PC but still doesn't work. The RT31P2 made lots of requests to the DNS server including the ls.tftp.vonage.net and the DNS replied with my PC's address but the RT31P2 didn't download anything from my FTP server.

Any ideas? TIA!!

Ok, I've posted what i did in the OP's.

I posted a short and long method that both worked on my virgin WRT54GP2 adapter that originally had 2.0.10 voice on it. It may work for already provisioned adapters as well.

Please let me know about the success of the short method. Just so we know whether it works on the RT31P2.

The long method is just in case the short method doesn't work.

There are bound to be typos and corrections. Please report them via a reply to this thread.

Hope this guide helps smile.gif

I bought an RT31P2 at a second hand store and used the 'short method' to open the voice side. It took the downgrade firmware with user/8995523 username/passwd. Followed the directions for setting up tftp server and feeding the flat xml file. Tftp showed the RT31P2 was looking for the xml file and logged the directory name it was looking for....I created the directory and pasted the xml file there.....about a minute later it found the file and applied it...and then I was in :-).
Did the factory reset and fed the xml file again to open it second time and save the GPP_K key found at http://192.168.15.1/Voice_adminPage.htm under 'Provisioning' (also turned off provision enable). Then I upgraded to the latest stable firmware

http://httpconfig.vonage.net/RT31P2_v1.30....combin_code.bin

....entered my voip provider user name and passwd .....put it online 'WAN'....it registered...made a phone call...sweet.

Anyone know how to upgrade to the latest firmware RT31P2_NA_v1.30.07_000_VM_3.1.09_LId_combin_code. On;y one of my voip lines works for some reason now, both used to work and am hoping this will cure it.

Only thing is it won't take the new firmware from the linksys site. I've hex edited the header and made it the same as the old file, but still won't take it.

Anyone got any ideas?

I tried to unlock a virgin WRT54GP2 I got a few years back following the procedures here. The firmware on the router is 1.25/2.0.12L. I tried to upgrade the firmware using the unlocked 1.25/2.0.9 version still available here. It did ask for user/password a few times and I used admin/admin. The flash completed. However, the voice firmware version didn't change, remained at 2.0.12L. I'd appreciate any help I can get here.

I may be missing something here, but this seems like much ado about what should be a rather simple process for a custom Linux build to perform. These lengthy instructions are obviously very easy to get wrong, and require an operating system that many people (myself included) do not have access to. I have not done the unlock yet myself, but as I study these instructions, I can't help but think that they could easily be scripted into an automated form. I envision:
  1. Download an ISO
  2. Burn to a CD or USB drive
  3. Boot off of said media
  4. Get prompted for your router's password
  5. Follow instructions on the screen that show you how to connect your VOIP device to your computer, internet router, etc.
  6. Your router's MAC address is detected, so you don't have to worry with that...
  7. Every network service you could need is in Linux...
  8. It either does everything perfectly, or it generates an exhaustive log/error report and gives you the option to post it to the official thread.

Alternatively something could be built in Python that could be run on any OS, including a dedicate Linux boot disk. With very little searching I've already found:
  1. DNS — http://code.activestate.com/recipes/491264/
  2. TFTP — http://sourceforge.net/projects/tftpy/
  3. DHCP — http://pydhcplib.tuxfamily.org/
  4. HTTP — http://www.python.org/doc/1.5.2p2/lib/modu...HTTPServer.html & http://snippets.dzone.com/posts/show/654

I haven't started the unlock process yet because I can't decide whether to use my mother-in-laws windows machine, use a VM, do it in Linux and document it, or let DogFace05 at DSLReports.com do it remotely.

Would anyone be interested in helping me the the Linux/Python development?
